My parents took me to this Burger Chef when I was little. I'm not sure when it ceased being Burger Chef, but business may have slowed when the McDonald's was built across the street (I don't remember when). When "Being There" was filmed in Asheville in the late 70's, there is a scene where they show Biltmore, including the Burger Chef sign, only I believe the sign says "King of the Road", or something like that.

I worked for Duffy Reints at the Burger Chef on Merrimon Ave through high school and college. It was one of the best times of my life. The first Burger Chef on Patton Ave closed due to road construction which took the land, not due to the consistent mediocrity that McDonalds produced. The sign in Biltmore showed "King of the Road Foods" which Duffy changed the name too around 1976 when the franchise agreement ran out.
