Penance

Penance

You'll notice that I've added a new link to the top right sidebar dubbed Daily Penance.  For the last few months I've been enjoying JtH's Daily Trivia Challenge and now decided to host a tournament of my own.  Every day there is a new quiz and the computer keeps track of your score.  The people with the highest score at the end of the month are immortalized in the Hall of Fame, and a new tournament begins.  Just click on the link, register (it's free and takes 0.02 seconds) then play; come back the next day to see how you fared against the competition and play again.  Simple.  It doesn't matter if you jump in mid-month, the computer adjusts the scoring...hope you join in, the more the merrier.

Have Meme, Will Travel

I should have known better than to run out and tag people I don't know, paybacks suck.  At any rate, I learned a little something about myself filling this out.....hopefully you will too, thanks to Nailpolishblues.....

10 Years Ago:  I was finishing Fall Finals for my Senior year at Ohio University.  Over winter break I met an old friend who spent a year studying in China, watching his videos inspired me to postpone grad school and move to Japan.

5 Years Ago:  I was at a Law School Fair in Dayton, Ohio during a nasty ice storm.  One look at the sunny pictures of Texas and I was sold.  Mrs. T and I arrived in the Lone Star state less than five months later.

1 Year Ago:  Mrs. T flew home to Japan to be with family while I stayed back and worked, so happy to finally be earning money instead of spending it on higher education.

Five Yummy Things:  1) Retsina 2) Metaxa 3) Glenfiddich 4) Sumatra Coffee 5) Custard Pie

Five Songs I Know By Heart:  1) Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Chipmunks by Alvin and the Chipmunks  2) My Winding Road by Yellow Monkey (I know all the English bits at least.)  3) The Gambler by Kenny Rogers  4) A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When The Stripper Is Crying by The Bloodhound Gang  5) The Llama Song

Five Things I Would Do With A LOT Of Money: 1) I would buy the rights to Burger Chef from CKE Restaurants and revive the franchise.  2) I would launch my own media empire, it would feature a 24 hour cable news network with Juju Chang as lead anchor, absolutely no mention of Hollywood gossip, and all weathermen would be midgets. 3)  I would purchase both the nations of Greece and Turkey, appoint myself Basileus and return the region to its ancient splendor (Temples to Aphrodite and all!)  4) I would become the sixth partner in BioWillie  5) I would create sustainable whale farms and start an international campaign promoting whale meat...it really is quite tasty and worth fighting for.

Five Things I Would Never Wear: 1) An LA Lakers Jersey  2) A headset for my cell phone  3) A "Hillary 2008" T-shirt  4)  briefs  5) Paris Hilton

Five Favorite TV Shows:  1) South Park  2) Antiques Roadshow  3) The Electric Company  4) Domingão do Fastão  5) MASK

Five Things I Enjoy Doing:  1) Driving through small towns and stopping at historical markers  2) Grilling steaks and drinking beer at the river  3)  Making lamps out of obscure items found at flea markets  4) Sipping a nice, smokey glass of Scotch from the Isle of Islay  5) Selling national secrets to the Russians...er, I mean taking the wife out to a nice restaurant.

Five People I Want to Inflict This On:  1) Some Guy  2) J-Go  3) McPan  4) Letti 5) Denver Jackson

I don't get tagged terribly often, but I did today...er, yesterday..by McPan.  So here goes:

  1. Go into your archives.
  2. Find your 23rd post.
  3. Post the fifth sentence (or closest to it).
  4. Post the text of the sentence in your blog along with these instructions.
  5. Tag five other people to do the same thing.

Today there's only the old general store/post office still standing (about a mile down the street from the ruins of the fort itself.)

  1. Johnny the Horse
  2. Sarcasmo
  3. Nailpolishblues
  4. LLCoffee
  5. smiliegirl

Week in Review

Item!

Mrs. T. and I purchased an early Christmas present this week, an American PlayStation 2.  I say American because we already owned a Japanese PlayStation 2.  The games are not compatible though, and I was dying to play....

Legostarwars  and Nba .  The Star Wars game is an absolute blast, you play as different characters and walk through the first three movie episodes.  The NBA game is quite fun too, we enjoy recreating last year's Spurs championship win over Detroit.

Additionally, Mrs. T got

Dancerevolution , this is the game you play on a dance pad and jump around like a maniac.  She thought it would be good exercise.  When she's playing this, I crack open a beer, watch and giggle.

Up till now we've been content with our Japanese PS2.  Our favorite game on it is called "Mosquito 2."

Ga2 In it you play a mosquito that has snuck into the baggage of a Japanese family who flies to Hawaii for a home-stay with an American family.  Your goal is to suck blood out of folks without getting thwacked.  The earlier stages are easy since the Japanese family is still jet-lagged and can't put up much of a fight.  When my Evil Little Brother is in town, the first thing he ever wants to do is play this game.  It's hilarious.  Check out this video trailer for it, and listen to the disco music, the song is in English and it's all about the joys of sucking blood.

Item!

J-Go announced on his blog that our buddy Guy just published an article on .NET Developer's Journal entitled The Composite UI Application Block.  Having read it, I can honestly say once again, I have no idea what Guy is talking about.

Item!

93 year old Studs Terkel appeared on Nightline last night.  And all I can say is that I am so happy Ted Koppel is retiring from the show next month.  He really is a jerk.  His interview with Terkel focused very little on Terkel's politics and ideas and more on his physical condition and appearance (at one point calling Terkel's walking cane "hideous" because it was topped with a carving of a fish.)

Week in Review

ITEM!

Ktaylor I caught up with Keith Taylor over a drink on Tuesday night.  He's making headway on his gospel album.  In the meantime you can visit his website to hear clips of his singing...or check out this video clip.  This guy has a loyal following all around the Texas Gulf Coast.  Can't wait for the album....

ITEM!

Jth Johnny the Horse is hosting a Daily Trivia Challenge on his site.  You'll find the link to it in the upper right corner of his page, just under the album cover of Madness' One Step Beyond.  The more folks on board the merrier!  The question still remains as to what exactly the tournament winner will receive, it'll likely be a month supply of mustache wax or an international toast held in the winner's honor conducted by all the participants set for 19:00 hours, Australia-New South Wales-Sydney Time, the Friday evening following the end of the game--drink yet to be determined (though I throw my vote in for a nice Shiraz.)

ITEM!

Mcpanmess America's favorite sweetheart Katrina refugee, E. McPan, got word this week that her house survived relatively unscathed.  She just moved into this place a month before the storm, and I bought her crock pot and fondue set just before she left to help lighten the load.  Now that I know her stuff survived mostly intact, I will continue to use both contraptions 100% guilt free.

ITEM!

Sineadd A new date, in Philadelphia, was added to Sinead O'Connor's North American Tour schedule.  I take that to mean the schedule is not finalized.  Please let the good folks at Sanctuary know that Sinead should come to the San Antonio/Austin area.  After all, I dedicated my published Law Review article (on Vietnamese Shrimpers in Texas) to her--you'd think that alone would get me a backstage pass...if not disbarred.  Personally, I think she should come to Floore's with Willie Nelson.  They do a mean rendition of Don't Give Up together.  (And Floore's is just a mile from the Cloister!)
