Hey folks, I'm taking off on a two-month sabbatical and'll have the Cloister shut down till the first of August, so don't expect any new posts between now and then. Before I take off though I wanted to share what I learned at the Kerrville Folk Festival yesterday.
For one, Devon Sproule is a genius. If you ever get a chance to see her live, do it. Clips of her doing "Old Virginia Block" and "Stop By Anytime" are on YouTube, but they're not nearly as powerful as what I witnessed yesterday. She really got to jamming and by the end of her set she had the crowd on their feet cheering-- rare for a mellow, half-baked folk crowd.
Speaking of half-baked, I went to the refreshment booth and said to the hippie inside, "I'd like a beer and an ice tea; and make that beer a Shiner Bock." To which he replied, "Stop messing with my mind, man. You like, ordered two drinks, but it was like, three."
I love hippies.
See you in August!
