Dream a Little Dream

I don't often remember my dreams, and when I do, they're often so abstract and unimportant that I don't discuss them much.  But last night I had a dream that was unusually vivid.  In my dream, I was an old acquaintance of Barack Obama.  We'd gone to school together at Oxy.  We weren't best friends or anything, but we hung out in the same crowd and we could count on each other for favors.  Recently I'd fallen out of touch with him, but he was going to be in the Midwest making a series of speaking engagements and he called and asked if I'd tag along to help coordinate travel arrangements between stops.  I agreed and spent the next couple of weeks driving him around Illinois and Ohio in an armored SUV.  On each trip, he'd let a few campaign workers ride with him and he'd talk.  This was a rare and terrific thrill for these folks to have a couple of hours one on one with the guy.  They swooned at every syllable that fell from his mouth, a trait I remembered him having from back in our school days.  I was much more of an introvert in school and never needed the attention Barack did.  I didn't fall to his spell either because I was around him enough to understand his formula.  (That's part of the reason why we weren't closer friends than we were.  I wasn't going to be a sycophant.)  At any rate, while driving Barack around listening to the same spiel over and over, I kept thinking to myself how horrible it would be if he were elected President.  In all my years knowing him, I knew him to be charming and gregarious, traits which make for a great campaigner.  But when it came to administrative ability he was pretty lackluster.  After several weeks on the road, we said our goodbyes... but not until after I made a cocky comment about him cutting his hair (because back in school he sported dreadlocks.)

After waking up I was annoyed.  That dream perfectly captured my opinion of the guy.  My take on Hillary Clinton and John Edwards is similar.  Now that King George is nearing the end of his reign, we need to be on the look out for someone with experience.  By experience I don't just mean resume filler experience, like a single term in Congress or heading a failed Health Care task force.  By experience I mean a long and successful record of confronting difficult situations and producing positive results.  We need a leader who is already accustomed to making difficult decisions on issues and not just paying lip service to them.  We need someone with proven executive and administrative skills.  We need someone who's a seasoned and respected international diplomat and also a success at tackling domestic concerns.  King George has created such a mess, we can't entrust the clean-up work to an amateur.  None of the current "front-runners" in the Democratic Primary race demonstrate the type of experience we need.  But there's hope...

For what it's worth... We at The Bawdy Cloister hereby officially endorse Bill Richardson for President!

Those are funny, but don't really set the right tone for a Presidential election. That's more of a mayoral spot. It also seems a bit right-leaning.

I admire Richardson (despite the flack he's caught for picking as his favorite Supreme Court Justice one who dissented in Roe v.Wade and some other big lefty cases) and will be watching him. Out of the gate I'm favoring Joe Biden, though I'm not sure why. I think I actually like his candor.

I think that General Petraus' talents are being wasted on Iraq...I think that his talents would be best spent rebuilding post-war United States. If I were to pick a country to rebuild after this war it would be ours.

I had a dream I was eating a giant marshmallow.

And when I woke up, my giant marshmallow was gone.
