Gansett and Park Avenues

Let's not forget the Burger Chef in Cranston, RI on the corner of Gansett Ave & Park Ave. I remember in the late 50s and early 60s walking to the corner, sitting down across the street on the corner house retaining wall close by the sidewalk, being only 9-10 years old, I was not allowed to cross Park Avenue. I sat there for hours just watching all the cars entering and leaving the, quote "The Chef". I couldn't wait for the souped-up cars to pull out of the parking lot on to Park Ave, back then I guess it was somewhat legal to spin tires, I never saw any cops, even now some 46 years later when I go back to RI to visit, I still don't see any cops, now that I miss! Even now after all these years my brothers and freinds still chat at times talking about the good old days, talking about "The Chef" By the way, a hamburger with a frie were 25 cents! Thanks for the memories.

Newport Avenue

My grandfather took me to Burger Chef on Newport Avenue in East Providence, Rhode Island before every baseball game. It was a special time for us to spend together with the best burgers there ever was and ever will be.

Johnston, RI

1423 Hartford Avenue

Growing up in the 70’s as a little boy my mom would take me to a Burger Chef in Johnston, Rhode Island. It was at the corner of Hartford Avenue and Atwood Avenue. The exact address was:  1423 Hartford Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.

The building was demolished by the very early 80’s and a Mister Donut was built in its place.  That building has since been torn down and now a small Tim Horton’s drive-thru building stands there today.

Middletown, RI

641 West Main Road

I worked at Burger Chef in the early 80's: it was located on West Main Rd in Middletown, RI. It has been vacant for many years. I still fondly remember the Fish Sandwiches and Mushroom Burgers...t-man

George Staffopoulos became a Burger Chef franchisee with this store in 1967.

This was the first GKT store.  GKT was a corporation created in 1973 by George Morin, George Staffopoulos and Ken Thomason.  GKT opened the North Smithfield store in 1974.

Route 108

I remember there being a Burger Chef on Rt 108 in Wakefield, Rhode Island. I think it was open up until 1980 or so. Too bad we're stuck with fast food restaurants of today. It's amazing that Burger Chef could fail, yet McDonald's still prospers.

Post Road

I worked at Burger Chef on Post Rd. in Warwick, R.I. in 1968-1970. It is now the Rocky Point Chowder House. I remember so well the "Big Chef" and only wish I could have just one more...

I used to date a girl who worked at the Burger Chef on Post Road in Warwick, Rhode Island. In fact, we were almost married once. She found someone better I guess. I was in the Navy Seabees at Davisville at the time. Had a lot of fun in R.I. Wish I could turn back the clock 40 years

Some of my favorite memories of visiting my grandma back east in the late sixties.. visiting the BC on Post Road. Near the Ann & Hope. The sauce is what did it.. maybe similar to the Bob's Big Boy sauce.. er, Ted's.. wasn't there a Ted's near Garden City?

West Warwick, RI

As a kid, my family and I frequented the Burger Chef in the Crompton section of West Warwick, RI. My older brother was an employee and manager there, and in 1983, I began my brief BC career. I was present for the Hardees conversion,but Hardees never really caught on here; it lasted maybe three years. The restaurant eventually became a "Pleasers" and then, under new ownership, an A&W. The building was demolished years ago, and a CVS Pharmacy is now on the site.
