Akron, OH

A Burger Chef opened in Akron on October 17, 1977.  I don't have an address for it, but it was operated by Robert Spencer.

West Market Street & Oakdale

There was one on West Market Street in Akron. I grew up there in the 60s - 70s.

More specifically, it was located on W. Market somewhere between Maple St. and the Tangier Restaurant, on the south side of Market. I went to school on Maple and worked at Tangier a few blocks away. I'd stop at Burger Chef on my way to work after school, buy a small hamburger, and load it up with everything from the "works bar". I'm not sure what's there now, I no longer live in the area.

That Burger Chef was on the corner of Oakdale and W.Market Street. When they were building it a group of kids used to play at the construction site and my sister was buried alive. She survived. We lived right behind it and that was the coolest we could get lunch for like 50Cents. The good old days.

Amelia, OH

State Route 125 & Bach-Buxton Road

We had a Burger Chef in Amelia , Ohio (that is about 25 miles east of Cincinnati). It was located at the corner of West Ohio Pike(st. rt. 125) & Bach-Buxton Rds. It became a Hardees and has now been leveled and a Valvoline Quick Lube is being built on the original site.
I remember as a child, my mother, my brother and I would go to Burger Chef to have lunch with my Grandmother who worked as a Mail Carrier. I have fond childhood memories of Burger Chef. It was my favorite fast food resturant when I was young.
I also have an original salt shaker from that restaurant with the original salt in it. It even still has the little sticker that the new shakers have on the top of them. It sits in my curio cabinet as I speak.

Ashland, OH

1443 Claremont Avenue

I started working at this Burger Chef in 1980 as a cook. Steve Standridge was the manager. I remember it as a fun place to work. Vince, Rick, Tom, Patty, Beth, Mel, Linda,...we all had a great time. I was later the manager 1983-1986. It closed in the 90's and now the building houses a Verizon Store. A lot of great memories though.

Bellevue, OH

Main Street

My co-worker worked at a Burger Chef when she was a teenager.  It was located on Main Street in Bellevue, Ohio.  After it closed, it was a Hardee’s and now they redid a lot of work and it opened a few months ago as a drive-thru.

I grew up in Bowling Green during the 60's. I worked at Hamblin Dry Cleaners which was only two or three doors away from the Burger Chef. Tom Gagon was the manager and I can't tell you how many of those things I ate. Since I worked in the evenings it was convienent for me just walk over there and get dinner to bring back to the plant. I have many fond memories of the Burger Chef. I remember, at least at the beginning they would have raw french fries soaking in the big stainless sinks they had. Thats when they made them fresh.

I have a picture of it now, it is being rebuilt or torn down, I don't really know. I lost much of the detail when I lightened it up, so I will send the original as well.

Canton, OH

2801 Tuscarawas St West

Hi... I 'stumbled' across your website and love it.  I'm 42 years old and am old enough to remember "my" local Burger Chef in Canton, Ohio.  It was at 2801 Tuscarawas St West in Canton, Ohio at the corner of Tuscarawas Street NW and Broad Avenue NW.  It is now "Dartmouth Pharmacy" and is the same building that housed Burger Chef.

My name is also Jeff, so I always enjoyed the "Burger Chef and Jeff" advertising campaigns.  I always got the "Top Chef" when I ate at Burger Chef.  Thanks for the good website, and I hope I contributed to the database.

Cincinnati, OH

Route 42

I remember three Burger Chefs in the Cincinnati area. One was on Route 42 in Sharonville just off I-275. That one I remember was a newer building, probably built in the late 70s when that area was starting to be really developed.

There was another Burger Chef on Beechmont, in Mt. Washington on the NW Corner of Beechmont and Corbly/Sutton. It was converted to a Hardees and later burned down. I ate at that Burger Chef many times as a child.

There was a location on Colerain Ave. just north of the Northgate mall on the opposite side of the street. This was changed to a Hardees for a long time.

Hamilton Avenue

Burger Chef was my favorite place to eat when I was a kid. I know for sure there was one in Cincinnati, OH on Hamilton Ave in Mt. Healthy (not sure of the exact address) that turned into a Hardee's and became several different local restaurants when the Hardee's closed.
