Northlake Boulevard
For some reason I felt the need to search the internet for Burger Chef tonight and found your site. I would like to mention the Burger Chef on Northlake Blvd in Lake Park, Florida. I remember in the late 70's and early 80's going to this Burger Chef many times a week since it was just a few blocks from our house. Since we had a McDonalds and Burger King in a 1/2 mile radius of 'our' Burger Chef...well lets just say Burger Chef was our favorite by far followed by Burger King and McDonalds was a very distant last place. Gosh, I can remember the taste of those Burgers even today! I can clearly remember riding my bike to Burger Chef with some loose change in my pocket and seeing a perfect replica of the '69 Charger based General Lee from the Dukes Of Hazzard running through the drive through. On hot summer days, the friendly folks who worked there would give us kids free cups of ice. Try that today.
Sadly this location packed up their tent with no explanation sometime in 1983 or 1984. The location became a Sonny's BBQ which was also great but not a fair trade for our Burger Chef. I can't count the times I've told the Burger Chef story to friends or co-workers right before taking the first bite of a McDonalds or Burger King burger knowing full well these 2 survivors were distant runners up to Burger Chef. Oh well, we still have our memories!

My father was the manager of that Burger Chef in the late 70's, then he went to the Jupiter Burger Chef. He actually owned one in Titusville in the early 70's. The food was by far greater than McDonald's or Burger King. I still don't eat either one except for breakfast.

This photo, from the December 1973 issue of Scene, shows Earl Wagner (right) the Porter of the Lake Park Burger Chef. He was responsible for the landscaping that won a certificate of merit from the town of Lake Park. Also pictured is Tom Abston (left), restaurant manager of West Palm Beach.
