Fort Smith, AR

Rogers Avenue

There was a Burger Chef on Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Don't remember when it closed but it was my first job. Worked there in the spring of 1972 for $0.50 an hour.

3220 Central Avenue

There was a Burger Chef in Hot Springs, Arkansas on Central Avenue, it now houses a Wendy's, but many many moons ago it was indeed where we went every Friday night for our funmeal.  Not sure if the address was the same back then.. but the Wendy's address is  3220 Central Avenue.

Pete Burtness opened the Hot Springs Burger Chef in October of 1961.  He and his store are featured in the September 1977 issue of Scene after finishing an extensive remodeling.  Below are some pictures clipped from that article, you can read the full text of the article here.

I have been to this location many a time in my life when I was a kid and we would go to Little Rock for an afternoon of shopping on University. Many many memories.

5404 New Benton Highway

One of my regular contributors, Robby, recently sent me a newspaper advertisement for this location.  I can't find New Benton Hwy on a map.  Does anyone know if the street changed names and if this is the location near the university mentioned above?

Bob Higginbotham and Don Richey opened a unit in Pine Bluff on April 28, 1977.  A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on May 12.  This store featured a special railroad-themed interior.  These pictures of this store appeared in the September 1977 issue of Scene:

In addition to this unit,  Higginbotham and Richey owned two other units in Pine Bluff and one unit in both Ft. Smith and Springdale

I used to go to the Burger Chef in Springdale all the time when growing up. There is now an Arby's on Thompson Street where Burger Chef used to be.
