Martinsburg, WV
305 N. Queen Street
When I was growing up in Martinsburg (and if I remember correctly), the Burger Chef was one of the two fast food restaurants in town (along with the Hag-Mart hot dog stand). Sometime in the late 70’s, a McDonald’s replaced the Hag-Mart and that was it for the Burger Chef. Somebody turned the former Burger Chef into an independent burger joint. I believe the name of the new establishment was “Burger Palace” but I’m not sure as it did not last very long. Soon afterwards, the building was renovated and occupied by Union Sales Dodge, who still occupies the building today. In fact, that was where I bought my first car.

The Hag-Mart was there long before Burger Chef and the mart closed in 1973. I remember when Birger Chef opened that ran a special on 10 for a dollar burgers.
