Regional franchise director, Robert Holtzman, announced the opening of this drive-in location on April 28, 1960. The store would be managed by Frank Callahan. Holtzman also stated that another unit was opening on Landover Road in Cheverly, MD that same morning. The two stores were the third and fourth stores to open in the greater Washington area. Soft drinks were on the house opening day. (On the Town, article by Paul Herron, The Washington Post, 29 Apr 1960, Page C11.)
This site is now a Pizza Hut.

Robert Holtzman and William Platt opened this drive-in store in June, 1959. It was the first store these franchise holders opened in the area. Holtzman claimed that the store sold 2,000 hamburgers a day its first month in operation, beating his expectations. (Hamburger Chains Vie for Area Trade, article by Frank C. Porter, The Washington Post, 14 July 1959, Page B8.)
On February 1, 1960, the two front windows were discovered broken and $620 missing from the safe. Police determined that it was an inside job and charged five men, including an 18 year old assistant manager and another employee of the restaurant, with grand larceny. One of the suspects led police to the missing money, hidden in a canvas bag in a field off Telegraph Road south of Alexandria.
